About RSHU
Russian State Hydrometeorological University (RSHU) is the only higher education institution in Europe with the status of a Regional Meteorological Training Centre of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
RSHU offers courses at all levels of higher professional training leading to BA, MA, Specialist, Candidate (equivalent to PhD) and Doctor of Sciences degrees in the area of environmental studies.
RSHU research programmes include study of atmospheric and oceanic processes, atmosphere-ocean interaction, methods of weather analysis and forecasts, estimation of possible climate changes, and creation of diagnostic and forecasting models.
History
- 1930
- Founded by Decree No. 237 of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR as the Moscow Hydrometeorological Institute.
- 1944
- Transferred to Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg).
- 1945
- Reorganized as the Leningrad Hydrometeorological Institute (LHMI).
- 1992
- Renamed to the Russian State Hydrometeorological Institute (RSHI).
- 1995
- Received the status of the Regional Meteorological Training Centre of WMO.
- 1998
- Received university status and renamed to Russian State Hydrometeorological University (RSHU).
- 2006
- Signed the «Magna Charta Universitatum».
